Juliana botanical garden

Juliana is the first and the only alpine botanical garden in the natural environment on the Slovenian territory. In 1926, it has set up Trieste landowner and merchant Albert Bois de Chesne (1871-1953), friend of Julius Kugy. The garden grows about 600 varieties of plants, some also endemic. Best time to visit in spring and summer (june, july), when most plants flower.

Bled & Bohinj - The Pearls Of The Julian Alps

Not really in the Soča valley, but just as beautiful, if not more... On the east side of the Julian Alps, lie almost side by side the two pearls of the Julian Alps - lake Bled and lake Bohinj! From Bovec there are two "fast" ways to get there. One is through Log pod Mangartom crossing Predil and then following the signs for Kranjska Gora, Jesenice, Bled, Bohinj. The other one, I suggest, is through the beautifull Trenta valley, passing Vršič (1611 m) mountain pass, and then through Kranjska Gora...but not a good option in the winter. Both take about 2-3 hours or more, depending on the trafic and pit stops.

trdnjava Kluže

Following the road passing Predil you would probably want to make a stop at "trdnjava Kluže", world war ruins, Log pod Mangartom, Strmec, Mangart, Predil pass and Rabeljsko jezero (some photos at SeightSeeing I)... Following the road over Vršič defently stop at Trenta, probably vistit the Trenta museum, Soča source, Zadnjica valley, small troughs of river Soča, Mlinarica troughs, Alpinum Juliana (Alpin botanical garden), Vršič...
